Forgot to post this one – mid August and Allan spent the day in the middle of a field with Richard, at the Biddenden Tractorfest

Just got back to Richard’s flat. Had a good day at Tractorfest. Got there at just after eight this morning and finally drove out at six this evening.

This layout alone displaying Lemmer in Friesland (Netherlands), in H0 1:87 is already worth the journey to the narrow gauge museum near Leiden for the Smalspoormodelbouwdagen Stoomtrein Katwijk-Leiden on the 29 and 30th of August 2026. We convinced Geert de Heij to bring his layout to this international exhibition, because it needs to be admired in real life by the public. Much of it is hand made with some Artitec and Tramfabriek details. You’ll find that everything is made at a very professional level, including the whole frame, lighting and run around loop. We don’t expect to see it at many shows, as Geert is more a builder than exhibitor, so grab your chance at the end of this month to see something really special.

On this Day: 25 July 1947 – The Art Deco Pippbrook Garage opposite the station is auctioned at the Red Lion Hotel following the death of its owner. It is bought by Rob Walker who operates it as a petrol station, car dealership and the headquarters of his racing team – which won 8 Formula 1 grand prix titles in the 1950s and 60s.

It would also make a great model, but you might get some rude comments!
