Folkestone MRC exhibition 2025

And so to October 5th, and the Folkestone show….  As usual, photos from Allan….

An aerial view of proceedings…..

Good to see John Brightwell and Alpenbahn (N) out and about….

Good to see the Lyme Regis branch (N) run by some of the West Sussex mob.

It’s a bit blurred, but I have to include Blindheim (O), as it was built by someone I’ve known since junior school days!

Lovely bit of ‘Sarth’ London with Tanners Hill (N).

A little gentle switching on Rensville (HO).

Large scale industry at Norman Colliery (O).

North Cornwall Brewery (OO).

And a selection to finish….

ESNG meeting – 15 October – and a show

Forgot to write up Wednesdays meeting.  Not much to say, really.  Four met for a minor working party and chips, then a fifth came along for the evening.  And a few trains took to the tracks.  I even ventured to run one!  We packed up early.

Saturday it was the Scouts Lego show in Redhill.  We’ve often been invited to this show.  It’s local and easy to get to, relaxed as we don’t have to pretend to be real railway modellers, good to have lots of youngsters appreciating trains.  And they do superb bacon rolls.  It makes for a chance to put up a bigger circuit and play trains all day.  Although as we get older, we welcomed the help of some scouts to lift the railway upstairs, as their lift had broken.

The show finished at 4pm, and all the railway was back in the church and I was home soon after 5pm.  The advantages of a local show!

And thanks to Brian for a few pictures taken before he retreated for a flu jab…

Fareham Railex 2025

Going back in time to October 4th, and catching up on some photos.  A selection from Allan’s many pictures of the show.

Melin Dolrhyd (009).  Very simple and very satisfying.  Little trains passing through some attractive scenery….

Lisworth Bay (N).  A regular on the circuit, but a great model of a Swanage-like LSWR major seaside branch line.

West Meon Viaduct (OO).  A real labour of love – over 10,000 pieces and 8 months!

Minories (EM).  It was better when it was a terminus – more work to exhibit, but just better.

The always interesting Elbow Lane (OO).

Ryburn (P4).  Always good to see pre-grouping modelling – Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway.

Redbridge Wharf (OO).

Alderford (OO).  NW England in the 1980’s, diesel and electric motive power.

Exebridge (3mm/ft TT)….  REAL TT!

And a mix-and-match to finish!

ESNG meeting – 12 October

A pleasant autumnal Sunday afternoon, and seven members out to play.  Perhaps there was as much chat as trains, but we all had a good afternoon.

Derek was running mail trains again.  First this rather luminous unit…

Then a Britannia on a more conventional train…

Brian is still out in the wilds of Kent with this little train….

Chris modelled Reading-Redhill as was….

And Allan’s hoppers….

Brian’s HST’s on goods.  I like this prototype use of the old power cars!

And as always, Brian was behind the camera…

Canals

Some final photos from Dave.  First, the delightfully named Bugsworth Basin….

And then Gnosall, looking towards Newport.

Stafford Railway Circle show 2025

I’d really hoped to get to this show – the largest non-commercial show south of the border – and perhaps bigger than Model Rail Scotland.  But circumstances conspired again…  However, both Paul and Dave got there, and here are a few of Dave’s pictures.

A large show….

Dave liked the American layouts.  Bear Creek (HO)

And Eight Dollar Canyon (HO)

Kensington Addison Road (O) is magnificent and always worth a look.

Some lovely NW Scotland modelling, Barriehandie (OO)

Doe Lea (N), a 4ft x 1ft shunting layout.

Peasevern Yard (O)

Some lovely modelling here, but I can’t find the layout name in the show guide!

And some of the rest!

Chasewater Railway

Dave has visited the Chasewater Railway.  The Chasewater Railway is a former colliery railway running round the shores of Chasewater in Staffordshire, England. It is now operated as a heritage railway.  The line is approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) in length, contained entirely within Chasewater Country Park.

Just a bit of a photo dump!  Some interesting stock here, especially the tub wagons (though I’m sure they weren’t used as a flower pot….), and the stone sleepered track.

Next time, Stafford show.

Horsham MRC show 2025

I’d better start posting again – I have a string of photo from Dave and Allan to share.  But first, the Horsham show a week or so ago.  I have been too busy to get to many shows recently, but a couple of hours in Dorking with Allan and Derek made a good break from all the business.

A pleasant show in the school hall, with some good layouts, and plenty of second-hand stalls.  I was very restrained and only bought a £5 OO Hong Kong tram.  It matches my other one….

Paul Jobber exhibited one of his little layouts, that are transportable by bus or trains.  I liked the irregular baseboard shapes of this Swiss layout, based on a real location.

Battledown (N) is a Horsham club layout, 18ft of a well-known Southern Railway junction.

Benryn Ar Y Camlas.  Some

Narrow gauge branch terminus, Garn.  Nothing twee about this!  A real working railway.

And the tiny, but fun, Vale Quarry.

Some other layouts that caught the eye….

Amazing!

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside….

Ron seems to have brought the wet weather back from the Isle of Man.  As he puts it, it was a visit to the….

Southampton Classic Bus Spectacular (SCBS) – in the wet

Just a photo dump of some interesting vehicles….

Just the day for a trip upstairs….

And the rest…..

ESNG meeting – 1 October

A Wednesday working party did a few odds and ends – Mr Atfield lengthened his legs – and repaired the Speedo board.  Two of us arrived in time for fish and chips.

In the evening, we had seven members along, and ran a few trains.  Highlight was Simon’s oil tankers, four locos, 60 cars long, that managed several circuits without uncoupling.

Not much else to report, so here’s an ode to autumn!

And a reminder that we will be exhibiting again on the 18th, in Redhill.
