2. It used to have a cinema
The Waterloo News Cinema opened on the concourse of Waterloo station in 1934 and was located next to what is now Platform 1.  It screened looping news bulletins throughout the day and the cartoons later down the line.  During the 60s it was renamed Classic Cinema Waterloo, and screened old Hollywood classics. The Waterloo cinema closed in 1970 but wasn’t demolished until 1988.
