ESNG meeting – 27 June 2021

Extra Sunday meeting on the 27th, but I wasn’t there for long due to a lot of enthusiastic members and the Rule of 6.  But I’m sure they had fun!  Comments from Paul….

A pleasant afternoon playing trains in Earlswood. The rule of six still applies, so everybody present had plenty of opportunity to run their trains. All of my stock ran well apart from the oil tankers, some of which need new axles and wheels. I must do some more work on my layout, I have neglected it a bit recently owing to the football.

And video from Brian.  And with one of my favourite albums as the sound track.  I went through university listening to “Countdown to Ecstasy” – and listened to it again just recently.  Real music for real trains!!

No I haven’t squeezed sound chips in some of my Terriers – just Brian having a little fun!

Have you ever realised this? (Could also be Thailand or Vietnam, and I’ve travelled by train in Bangladesh through a similar area.)

Anyone going to model this?

Day 8

Started overcast but turned out sunny.  A 50 minute drive took us to Pickering where we had a round trip booked on the North York Moors Railway, where we had a 3 hour layover at Whitby, which enabled us to have a fish and chips lunch followed by walk around the town.

Started cloudy but turned to rain early afternoon.  An easy day; drove to Park and Ride for bus into York, where we met Sean off his train from London. The three of us then went round the National Railway Museum, After this we wandered round the city centre before having a meal. We saw Sean onto his train back to London. Then it was back to the hotel.

Day 6

A cloudy and humid day with some sunshine this afternoon. Lots of driving today. Set out from Kidderminster and after a break en-route Allan visited a model railway shop at Hensall. The station is on the line from Doncaster to Goole. We then headed towards York. As we were running early for check in we took a Park and Ride bus into York for a quick look round prior to our full day visit tomorrow to go round the National Railway Museum.

Another kit completed!

Job complete! Roof on Sunday, rained all Monday and part of Tuesday morning, but I nipped out and finished it when the weather cleared. It does need a wooden floor, but that will follow….

One of the more difficult kits that I have built.  Hopefully, I can now return to ‘N’ gauge for a week or two before the next home project.

Day 3

Another hot sunny day. Drove to Paignton for a return trip on Paignton and Devon Steam Railway to Kingswear and then a ferry to Dartmouth. Now sitting on Buckfastleigh station for return trip on South Devon Railway.

View from Paignton railway. You can just make out 2 mothballed cruise ships in Torbay.

And the trains on the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway.

Then on to the Dart valley, and the South Devon Railway.  Maxine and I visited a few years ago – I’d last been there when it was the Dart Valley Railway, and was about to open as a preserved line.  Dates me a bit…..

Well….

Unpacked the new shed this morning. Good job I’ve got an engineering degree!  I think that I’ll stick to model kits in future….

Fortunately, the weather has prevented me getting on with it, and I’m resorting to reading the instructions!!
